Allowing Slowness into our Lives

Hello,

As some may know, this past week I finished rebranding my website and social media platforms. This was a process I have taken my time to do. Something I wanted to do slowly by doing things differently and seeing what worked and what did not before I committed to a full change.

This experience not only helped me find direction with my work at both of my businesses, but it also flowed into other aspects of my life. Taking time with things, pausing before I began, taking small breaks throughout the day, and only sharing my creations when I felt the time was best. No longer creating these false deadlines in my mind that kept me in a constant state of rush. This is a deep set way of life for me, so it is something I know will take time to implement change with. Again, being slow with myself in the process.

This brought me deep into thought. Where does this false sense of rushing come from? Where is it rooted? Where did it begin? Was it something I learned from others around me in childhood or was it due to past traumas? I concluded that it was all the above, but truly it did not matter, it is what was coming up for me right now and that means it needed to be seen.

One of the first things we do as a baby, well, for most of us, is to eat. It is one of the first connecting moments we have. Some of us may have prayed before meals, offered a blessing, or taken a moment to share gratitude before meals in our households growing up, and some of us still do. With food being so readily available now, and with schedules being busier in more recent modern times, we often forget to slow down and focus on what we are eating and the beautiful act of preparing a meal.

This meditation is a great way to incorporate that. It can be done at work, at home, or anywhere you find your next meal. Allowing you to take a moment to pause, and connect with your environment, the people you are with, and your surroundings while entering a state of relaxation so you can remain present with your meal.

The best advice I can give anyone who is trying to implement a healthier relationship with themselves and food is to take time for yourself. This doesn’t even have to relate to food. Just in general. Make sure you are taking time throughout the day to have brief moments to yourself. To connect with your surroundings, to connect with yourself, so you can listen to what your body is saying and honor how you are feeling in the moment. Carrying this mindset with you with all things you do. Connecting before you log that next meal, make that next phone call, and return that next e-mail. In these small moments of connecting, we realize that the constant false feeling of constant business melts away. We can remain busy but in a parasympathetic state. A calm mind even amongst chaos. Within time of course. A slowness of learning to slow down.

This week I shared a recipe for Dark Opal Basil Pesto Recipe on my website. Let me know if you try it. The spicier taste of the dark opal basil is deliciously combined with the sweetness of the sweet basil.

If this type of basil is not readily available to you, just use whatever you have. All my recipes are diverse enough to be used however works for you and your body, and what’s within budget or season.

For my clients, I have recently switched to Acuity Scheduling for my offerings. Please make sure to use the updated booking links through my website. I am currently booked out until the second week of November so make sure to book ahead or reach out to me if there is a time and space that you need that is not available on my calendar. I will be adding more availability as we flow into 2023. Below is the update link for all my offerings.
